As a part of my master thesis I am designing a Rail profile with tunnel enclosure and meshing it in ICEM CFD. I have come across an issue where after I mesh both my parts of the model and I transfer the geometry to transient structural I find that most of the mesh of my rail is missing. Can anyone help me here with what I can improve to avoid this. I checked the pre mesh quality in ICEM and it was perfect with all its mesh intact. One more thing I found was that the the remaining part of mesh from rail is combined with the enclosure mesh.

I have attached an image to show a much clearer image of the situation

As ANSYS employee we can not download attachments. Can you please insert some images describing the issue. Please insert some zoomed in images also for clarity.

If the model is simple, you may want to check ANSYS meshing. Please have a quick look at following video.

    Hello!

I would have considered ansys meshing but I needed high quality meshing for my thesis hence I had to use the ICEM CFD. More over model is not simple it has curved surfaces and quite medium size area.

In this image you could see that ping mesh area is missing for my rail profile. The transparent area is the enclosure area. how I did this mesh was I created two separate blocking for rail and enclosure and merged them and created mesh from it.

So you have blocking for solid rail and blocking for enclosure.

Do these blocking overlap at rail? Can you please post more images.

Yes, I have blocking for solid rail and enclosure. No, the blockings dont overlap but they merge together. I create the blocking for the rail first and then I merge that blocking with the one for the enclosure in the end I end up with one block.

This is the blocking of the entire model and both are separate blocking!

This is only the blocking of enclosure

This is the blocking for rail.

I hope those helps to understand the situation

    Thanks

    Thanks for images.

Can you check by using only rail mesh to transient structure? Same way can you check for enclosure?

Did you convert premesh to .uns file?

It would have been easy to collect files. But as ANSYS employee we can not download any attachments on forum. So request you to give as much info and images possible and be patient.

So, I have already checked with meshing the models separately and transferring them to transient and the mesh works perfectly for rail in this case. But I wanted to know why it does not work for the later case. Yes, I did convert and save the pre-mesh as unstructured mesh files. Also will there be any loss of interaction between the enclosure and the rail if you transfer the model as one (from ICEM) or if you split them into two and then transfer to transient?

You can spit them into two and transfer to transient. I believe there would not be any data loss.
